Tips for Parents!

Tips for Listening to Your Child Read

 Listen. Do not immediately correct your child’s mistakes when reading.

 Don’t put pressure on your child, remember—you want to promote a positive attitude towards reading.

 Do not go back through the book quizzing your child on letters or the words that were in the story.

 Help at the time, if needed. If your child tried to read the word, then praise them for their effort, give some other clues to figure out the word. Ask your child again to read the word. If they still don’t know the word, then tell them what the word is.

 Don’t be upset if your child can’t remember the word the next day. Give the clues again.

 Believe that your child will learn to read!

 Encourage and help your child to practice (don’t forget that reading aloud to your child is practice as well). Let them reread easy and familiar books many times.

 Remember that children learn to read at different rates, there are many things for your child to learn when they are learning to read. Most importantly, you must support and praise what your child is doing or trying to do.

Thank you!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for such a lovely time on Friday!  The children did a wonderful job with their plays and have truly grown in confidence over this last unit!  Please see below photos from our Celebration.  We will begin our new unit this week entitled Life Cycles.  If you could return the feedback form from the previous unit it would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great week,

Susan

Everyone is A Storyteller!

In your child's bookfolder you will find information on our new unit entitled, Everyone is A Storyteller. We will explore how we can express and communicate ideas and experiences through stories.

Sharing Schedule
For this unit please have your child bring in their favourite book, story, poem, picture, painting or photo as we explore different ways to tell a story.

I am looking for parents who might be willing to help out in our classroom during this unit to:
share their favourite story
share an art lesson
help to make puppet theatres or puppets

Kind Regards,

Susan

Ski Photos and Interviews

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to complete the interviews with your children for our unit, Play, Now and Then.  If you could return the Grandparent interviews by Friday we would appreciate it. We are now plotting the reponses on a venn diagram.

Please copy and paste the link below to view a short slide show from your child's second ski day.

Welcome Back!!!!

Dear Parents,

The children had a wonderful time skiing last week. The conditions were perfect with a lovely blue sky and brilliant sunshine. Please remember that everything your child brings needs to have a label with their name on it. Hopefully the children will enjoy another day of skiing this Thursday.

Please note the we are continuing our unit entitled, Play then and Now.
Again if anyone has any older relatives visiting who would be willing to be 'interviewed' by our class about how they 'played' as children we would greatly appreciate it.

Have a lovely week,

Susan
